The Multi Family Program and the Section 8 Program housing helps families afford housing and avoid homelessness or other kinds of instability. Some developments provide access to neighborhoods with well-resourced schools and more job opportunities, where it might otherwise be difficult for low-income families to rent homes.
Application Process and Waiting List
The multi-family housing program is open to accepting applications at this time. You must come by the office and pick up an application and an appointment will be made at that time for you to return with the required documents needed which include; original birth certificates, social security cards, proof of income, proof of ID, etc. A credit and background check will be submitted. The Section 8 program is presently closed. Section 8 openings will only be online when available and will be posted in the county paper and different locations including, the BHA office, courthouse, library, city hall, Haywood Criminal Justice Center, post office, and Haywood County Health Department.
Eligibility
Upon reaching the top of the waiting list, applicants will be scheduled an appointment to complete necessary paperwork and then begin the eligibility process. Eligibility is based at the present time on annual gross income along with family size, credit checks and criminal background requirements. The program is also limited to U.S. citizens and specified categories of non-citizens who have eligible immigration status.
The following documents are required to determine eligibility for housing.
- Government issued photo identification for all household members 18 years or older.
- Social Security cards for all household members.
- Original birth certificates for all household members. (Mothers copy is not accepted).
- Proof of any income for all household members.
BHA will notify you upon the determination of your eligibility. It will be your responsibility to supply any additional information or documentation requested by the housing manager to proceed with your housing assistance. If your mailing address, email address or phone changes it is your responsibility to notify us.
