RENT
All rent is due on the 1st day of each month. Residents have until the 5th day of the month to pay rent without a late fee of $5. If the 5th falls on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, residents will have until the next working day to pay without a late fee. After the 5th day $1 will be added daily. We no longer accept cash. We only accept money orders or checks payable to Brownsville Housing Authority. There is a $35 returned check fee charge for returned checks. Payments are accepted in the office each day Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office is closed to the public on Wednesdays. After hour payments may be placed in the drop box outside in the foyer. The office is now closed from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m for lunch.
CHANGES IN INCOME OR FAMILY COMPOSITION
Residents must report changes in income or family composition within ten (10) days of the event. BHA uses HUD’s web-based computer system called the Enterprise Income Verification (EIV) system that contains employment and income information of individuals that participate in HUD rental assistance programs.
REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS
The Brownsville Housing Authority does not discriminate based on disability in the admission to, access to, or operation of programs, services, or activities. Qualified residents who need accessible communication aids and services or other accommodations to participate in programs and activities are invited to make your needs and preferences known. It is the policy of BHA to make every effort possible to provide reasonable accommodations, financially, and administratively feasible. This includes any physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more life activities: or a record of having such an impairment or regarded as having such an impairment.
PEST CONTROL SERVICES
Pest control services are provided by Homestead Pest Control monthly. They are scheduled for the third Thursday of each month. All residents are required to allow the exterminator to enter their unit. Screen doors must remain unlocked on that day, otherwise, a $25 service charge will be added to your account. If you should need additional service, please contact the BHA office at 731-772-0274 option 0.
Parking
All residents must have a parking pass on their vehicle. The vehicle must be registered and updated yearly in the residents’ name. The vehicle must be parked where the parking pass is visible. Any unregistered or inoperable vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense. Also, any overnight guest must come by the office and acquire a temporary parking pass.
HOUSEKEEPING POLICY
Failure to abide by the housekeeping standards is a violation of the lease terms and can result in eviction. You can request a copy of our policy regarding this matter.
